The weather continues to be poor. Despite this, some bombing contact patrol and spotting work was carried out by various squadrons.
2nd Lieutenant Eric Barnes Mason and Lieutenant Leicester Frederick Struben from 70 Squadron were on a practice patrol in their Sopwith 1 ½ Strutter (A882) and crossed the line by accident after flying into a cloud. The aircraft was shot up but they managed to return safely.
Captain Thomas Robertson Duff of 6 Squadron was wounded by AA fire during a spotting mission. He was nevertheless able to obtain nine direct hits on a hostile battery, causing ammunition to explode for five minutes. His pilot Lieutenant Sydney Philip Smith escaped unharmed.
However there was bad news for 6 Squadron as the only fatalities of the day came when 2 mechanics – Vernon Lionel Brazier and William Richard Wiltshire – were killed in an accident.
