DEE81677-2C5A-4255-A2BE-4E720A5CD492-405-0000004ACDE193C7Out in Palestine, 67 (Australian) Squadron (1 Squadron AFC) has continued to survey the enemy lines in preparation for future offensives. Today, Lieutenant Jack Stanley Brasell was killed whilst escorting a two plane reconnaissance mission in the Squadron’s only BE12a (A6322). After setting off from  Deir-el-Belah aerodrome, they were attacked by three enemy aircraft over Tel el Sheria.

As the only fighter, Brasell took on the three attackers. After a lengthy combat, the BE12a went down in a spiral but landed cleanly behind enemy lines. At the time it was hoped that Brasell had survived, but the Germans dropped a message the next day to day that he had been hit in the head and died shortly after landing. Leutnant Frank Schlieff from FAb300 claimed victory.
