Many aircraft have effectively been sponsored by citizens from various parts of the empire. One such presentation aircraft, a BE2e (2563) named Punjab No 4 Kashmir was lost today.
Activity was light as many squadrons prepare for ramping up activity tomorrow as part of the latest British offensive.
2nd Lieutenant Karl Christian Horner and 2nd Lieutenant Alfred Emmerson from 12 Squadron RFC left around 0810 this morning on artillery registration. They were attacked near Arras and shot down by Leutnant Hans Klein from Jasta 4 for his first confirmed victory.
Horner was hit in the neck, but managed to nurse the aircraft back over the lines and crash land. Emmerson suffered a fractured skull and broken leg and died later at a casualty clearing station. Horner was taken to hospital but also succumbed to his wounds.
