19 December 1915 – Things are really hotting up

The heaviest day of fighting in the air for the RFC today. The RFC Communiqué 25 indicates that 48 combats took place, of which 12 are reported there.

Of course, as is by now usual, losses do not appear in the communiqué. Remarkably given the number of combats, only 2 crew were killed. Lieutenants N Gordon-Smith and N F Cunningham of 12 Squadron were shot down over Oostcamp in their BE2c by Otto Parshau in his Fokker Monoplane for only his second victory.
