7 December 1915 – Kut abandoned

Following the failure of the offensive on Baghdad, British forces fell back to Kut, hotly pursued by the Turks.

To avoid encirclement the two remaining serviceable planes were flown out today – a Maurice Farman (flown by Captain Petre) and a BE2c. The remaining BE2c’s had to be abandoned due to damage along with the last Martinsyde.

Also left behind were a few pilots and observers, as well as most of the NCOs and the mechanics.
