1 December 1915 – Wind

16 Squadron lost another aircraft today. Lieutenant Duncan William Grinnell-Milne and Captain C C Strong were on reconnaissance in their BE2c (4086) over Valenciennes when they developed engine trouble.

They turned for home but strong westerly winds meant that they made little headway and were forced to land 8 miles behind enemy lines near St Quentin. They landed unharmed, burned their aircraft, and were taken prisoner.
