5 November 1915 – Catapult

Henry C Mustin

Henry C Mustin of the US Naval Aeronautic Station recorded the world‍’s first catapulting of an aircraft from a ship underway today.

He took off in his Curtiss Model AB-2 from a catapult attached to the deck of the armored cruiser USS North Carolina.

Mustin was one of the founder members of the first US Naval flying school at Pensacola, designated Naval Pilot No. 3.
