3 October 1915 – I Spy

Following the failure on 13 September, the RFC attempted another spy drop. This time 2nd Lieutentant JW Woodhouse of 4 Squadron flew his BE2c to Serain near Cambrai. The aircraft was shot up by ground fire and instead landed near Bantouzells. The agent and his pigeons were dropped successfully around 4.30pm.

Woodhouse took off but had to land almost immediately with engine problems. Eventually he was able to take off and limped back over the lines at around 6.40pm, landing near Amiens.
