31 August 1915 -Captain John Liddell VC MC dies

John Aidan Liddell VC, MC, died today. Following his crash on On 31 July, Liddell had to have his leg amputated and remained in hospital. For his bravery he was awarded the Victoria Cross.

Unfortunately, septic poisoning set in, ah he died of his wounds today. He was 27.

He volunteered for duty and became a captain in the 3rd Battalion, The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (Princess Louise’s). He spent 43 consecutive days in the trenches in command of the machine gun section before being awarded the Military Cross at Le Maisnil, he then trained as a pilot and joined 7 Squadron,
