9 July 1915 – HMS Hector arrives in Dardannelles

HMS Hector arrived to reinforce the air forces in the Dardannelles today. The Hector is another kite-balloon ship like the HMS Manica. The ship, a cargo vessel of some 4,660 tons, was launched on 27 November 1894, having been built by Workman, Clark & Co Ltd., Belfast for the Ocean Steamship Co Ltd., Liverpool. The ship was requisitioned for Admiralty service as a Fleet Messenger on 12 May 1915 and then converted to a Kite Balloon Ship.
