20 June 1915 – Improvisation pays off for Hawker

Today, Captain Lanoe Hawker was out in his Bristol Scout C (1609) when he encountered a German 2 seater. Hawker has improvised a special mounting to fit a machine gun to left side of his fuselage which allows it to fire outside the propeller arc.

The two took shots at each other until Hawker scored some hits and saw the plane descend rapidly trailing smoke. He was, however, unable to confirm the victory.
