16th May 1915 – RNAS adopts new markings

The RNAS officially adopted a new marking today. The Royal Flying Corps adopted the Blue and red roundel back in December 1914, but the navy wanted to maintain its independence and has used various markings including the Union Flag, the French Roundel and a red circle around a white circle.

Today the red and white roundel was officially adopted by the RNAS, and will be painted on all wings. The tail will retain the Union Flag.
