4 May 1915 – A balloon (or is it ballon) on the Western front

The British I Corps is currently preparing for an attack around the Aubers Ridge area.
Unfortunately the battle around Ypres was still ranging and the RFC was unable to release any aircraft to reinforce 1 Wing. Fortunately, the French 40e Compagnie D’Aerostiers together with a kite balloon, were put at the disposal of Sir Douglas Haig today. This is the first time a kite balloon has been used for artillery observation on the Western Front.
