31 January 1915 – British newspapers report destruction of German plane

A number of British newspapers have reported that a German plane was shot down over Niejport. Two German Taubes bombed targets in Flanders. A number of allied aircraft took off in pursuit, and overtook the Taubes near Niejport. The Germans attempted to escape by swift eccentric flying and the explosion of black-powder bombs, which caused a thick smoke. One Taube turned turtle and was destroyed near Malo. The other got away.
